Maristel has made great advances since becoming a Project Read learner in 2004.  Her first goals with tutor, Rita Barichievich, were to obtain her citizenship and driver's license which she did accomplish. She is very excited about being able to vote and has been carefully following the current presidential campaign.

When Maristel first started with Project Read, she was a cashier at Manila Market.  Since then, she has been promoted to a management position.  Studying diligently to overcome her learning disability, Maristel also attends Skyline College where she takes classes to improve her reading and writing skills.  These will help her to move into a fulfilling career.

Congratulations to Maristel for becoming a U.S. citizen, advancing in her job, and attending college!

Project Read is the epitome of people helping people. The staff here shows their selflessness and dedication every day by assisting others to enhance their daily lives by improving their literacy skills at any given level. I am in awe of how truly giving and caring they are – not just because it is their job but because it is in their nature as well. Many people benefit from the work that is done through this program. It is fulfilling for me to know that what I’m doing is helping others to achieve and accomplish their own goals.

Project Read has enriched my life by allowing me to meet a wonderful and caring group of people. Learners, tutors, staff, and volunteers all share the goal of advancing literacy in our community. Each person brings his or her own talent to the program. We all learn from and help each other on our individual paths of life.
