Learning Wheels
Learning Wheels, a program of Project Read, provides families for literacy services to hard-to-reach neighborhoods in North San Mateo County. Imagine a school on wheels where young children can hear stories, use a state-of-the-art computer, receive free books, and play with interactive educational toys.
You’ve just imagined Learning Wheels. Best of all, it is a free service of the libraries of South San Francisco, Daly City, and San Bruno.
In partnership with community organizations, Learning Wheels goes to health care centers, home day care centers, homeless shelters, health care centers, and individual homes. At each visit, families receive free books, hear a story time, get community information, and advice about parental concerns from a credentialed teacher.
Since Learning Wheels began in 2000, more than 37,000 people came aboard.
